Wolverines Back in Action, A Betting Favorite
The Michigan Wolverines made their long-awaited return to the basketball court on Sunday, and they were able to pick up right where they left off.
Michigan was able to use a late rally to come back and beat the Wisconsin Badgers to stay atop the Big Ten Conference standings.
The Wolverines have just one loss on the season, but it’s unclear how many games they will be required to play to finish the season. They have two fewer losses than any other team in the conference, but there are still plenty of tests remaining.
Michigan is currently the favorite to win the Big Ten Conference at +260, but there are teams that are in hot pursuit. The Ohio State Buckeyes (+300), Wisconsin Badgers (+450), and Illinois Fighting Illini (+500) could all factor in the title decision.
The real goal for the Michigan program is to win the national championship this season, and they are on the shortlist of favorites for that title as well. These odds will continue to be updated throughout the regular season, but now could be a great time to find some value by betting on the Wolverines.
Michigan is currently listed at +900 to win the national championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Wolverines trail the Gonzaga Bulldogs (+280) and Baylor Bears (+310).
Getting a No. 1 seed would certainly help the case for the Wolverines, and they were on the one-line when the first mock bracket was revealed. Joining Michigan as a No. 1 seed was Ohio State from the Big Ten Conference.
Illinois (+1600), Iowa (+1600), and Ohio State (+1900) are all considered potential title contenders, and the Big Ten Conference will be well-represented in the NCAA Tournament. Now that Michigan online sports betting is here, the Wolverines are expected to draw plenty of betting attention in the coming weeks.
Tigers, Lions Not Getting Love
After the NCAA Tournament wraps up, bettors in the state of Michigan will turn their attention to baseball while also thinking about the upcoming NFL season. The Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions are expected to be huge betting markets when those seasons begin.
Unlike the Wolverines, sportsbooks are not very high on the title chances for either team. Both the Tigers and Lions could end up surprising fans in the Motor City, and it could lead to a huge payday to anyone willing to back them now.
The Tigers are listed at +4000 to win the American League Central Division this season, which puts them ahead of only the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers are listed at +6000 to win the American League pennant, and they are at +10000 to win the World Series.
The Lions will have Jared Goff under center when they begin the 2021 NFL season, but sportsbooks don’t view that as an upgrade to Matthew Stafford. The Lions’ odds have actually gotten worse since that trade was made.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Lions are +2700 to win the NFC North, and they are +12000 to win the Super Bowl. Detroit has the worst Super Bowl LVI odds on the market.
