PointsBet Casino Now Live in Michigan
There is another new online casino option in the state of Michigan, and it is a name that is familiar with bettors in the state.
PointsBet launched its MI online casino platform earlier this week after receiving approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
PointsBet successfully launched its online sportsbook in Michigan on January 22, the first day that the industry became legal in the state. Sports betting has been the main focus for this Australian-based company, but it has been positioning itself in the online casino industry over the last few months.
This is the first online casino launched by PointsBet, and Michigan was an easy choice based on the early results of iGaming. The company also has plans to launch in New Jersey soon, and that is one of the biggest markets in the US.
There are now 13 online casino options in Michigan, and PointsBet is joining a very competitive market. This company has not been one of the top online sportsbooks through the first few months, but it continues to grow its presence and brand in the US. The operator faces some stiff competition, especially in the mobile casino market, with big names such as Golden Nugget, Draftkings Casino, and FanDuel casino already up and running.
PointsBet believes that adding an online casino option will allow it to be more competitive as other operators allow for easier access by offering both platforms. This move won’t make PointsBet a top online casino in the state, but it will significantly increase revenue for the company.
For the third quarter of the 2021 Fiscal Year, PointsBet has seen its revenue increase by over 240 percent. This venture into the online casino industry should continue this trend, especially as the site continues to launch in more markets.
The iGaming revenue totals for March in Michigan were over $95 million, and that number has been on the rise since the end of January. The total iGaming revenue through the end of March was over $204 million.
WSOP.Com Coming Soon
The launch of the PointsBet online casino was big news for the state, but an even bigger story broke a few days later. 888 Holdings PLC announced that it plans to launch WSOP.com in both Michigan and Pennsylvania by the end of June.
WSPO.com is the online version of the World Series of Poker, which draws the top poker players each year to the famous tournament with a large cash prize. This series has now been taken online as different tournaments are hosted in iGaming markets throughout the US.
It’s unclear how this will affect the 2021 WSOP.com tournament schedule, but there could be a featured tournament for Michigan residents added in the coming months. Other online casinos in Michigan will still provide a better overall experience, but this is a great site for poker players.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has already approved 888 Holdings for a license, but it will have to do the same for WSOP before it is able to go live. This is not expected to be an issue, but it could delay the process by a few weeks, keeping online casino bettors on edge.
