Michigan Set to Launch Online Sports Betting

Online sports betting is now legal in the state of Michigan, but the industry has yet to launch.

Online Michigan sportsbooks are still getting the final things in place, and the Michigan Gaming Control Board has not yet announced an official launch date.

There was a hope that online sports betting would launch before the end of 2020, but the MGCB simply ran out of time. That group is targeting January, and online sports betting is just a week or two away.

The MGCB has already approved 15 conditional or temporary licenses, and those sportsbooks are expected to be the first to launch. Some of the biggest operators in the industry are set to offer sports betting in Michigan, and the state is set to post some huge numbers.

Retail sports betting has been available in the state since March, but growth has been slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The three commercial casinos in Detroit all have a retail sportsbook, as do a few tribal casinos.

When online sports betting is officially launched in Michigan, sports bettors will be able to register for an account remotely. There will be no need to head to a retail location to complete the application process.

Betting on professional sports in the US and the top international competitions will be offered in Michigan. Sportsbooks can also offer betting markets on collegiate sporting events, including those featuring in-state teams.

Two of the online sportsbooks set to launch are already offering bonuses to customers in hopes of getting off to a great start in Michigan. Others will likely follow suit, but DraftKings and BetMGM have had these offers in place for the last few weeks.

DraftKings Michigan is offering new users up to $200 in free bets that can be used on the upcoming NFL playoffs. It’s unclear when exactly sports betting will launch this month, but the NFL Playoffs will go throughout the month of January.

These free bets can be used for each round of the NFL Playoffs, or they could all be saved up for the upcoming Super Bowl. This is a tremendous offer from DraftKings, and it is available for simply signing up at the site.
