Michigan Online Sports Betting Coming Soon
Another week has passed, and Michigan has still not yet launched online sports betting. But that could soon change.
That is expected to change as early as this week, with an announcement set to be made as early as Monday.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has been pretty quiet over the last few weeks, as it continues to work behind the scenes to prepare for launch. The group has started leaking information of late, and it appears that an official launch date will be announced soon.
It has also been determined that online sportsbooks in Michigan will be released on a rolling basis. That means that as soon as operators are approved and completed all of the final tests, they will be able to launch.
There are a number of big-name operators looking to launch in Michigan, but it’s unclear what online sports betting option will be first. It will be a benefit to be the first online sportsbook in the state, but Michigan will be an extremely competitive market.
These 15 sports betting operators have already received their online sports betting license to offer betting:
- Barstool
- BetMGM
- BetRivers
- Churchill Downs
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- FOX Bet
- GAN
- Golden Nugget
- Kambi
- Parx
- PointsBet
- Scientific Games
- William Hill
- WYNN Bet
Several of these companies have already been accepting pre-registration from Michigan residents, with both FanDuel and DraftKings leading the way. These two operators allow new customers to sign up for an account for both online sports betting and online MI casino gambling.
Retail sports betting in Michigan has taken a huge hit as the retail locations have been shut down in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. There are three commercial casinos in Detroit and several other tribal casinos throughout the state.
Questions For Online Casino Gambling
Online casino gambling is also expected to launch at some point in January 2021, but the Michigan Gaming Control Board wants to establish sports betting first. That could mean it takes a week or so before online casino gambling is able to launch.
Online casino gambling is not as prevalent throughout the United States, and that could allow Michigan to become a leader in the industry. Most operators are expected to offer both sports betting and online casino gambling, and that will allow these companies to run tests at the same time.
BetMGM is set to become one of the top online casino gambling options in Michigan, and that company is offering a pre-registration bonus to new customers at this time. Anyone who signs up for an online casino account is eligible to receive up to $200 in bonuses to be used at the site.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has also been fielding a number of questions about the pooled online poker offering. Michigan will be unveiling a platform that will allow poker players to create pools to battle against those users from other states.
The MGCB has made it clear that there is still plenty of work to be done before that is a realistic option in the state.
