College Football is Here; Let the betting begin

The 2021 college football season officially kicked off on Saturday, August 28, and this season should be back to normal.

COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the 2020 college football season, and it affected teams from the state of Michigan.

The return of college football games also means that college football betting will be featured at the sportsbooks. The Michigan sports betting industry has been trending downward recently, but those numbers should shift again beginning in September.

The University of Michigan and Michigan State University will be taking the field soon, and these are going to be two of the top teams to bet on in the state. Both teams were disappointing a season ago, and the futures betting odds for the Wolverines and Spartans don’t provide a ton of hope either.

Michigan used to be the class of the Big Ten Conference, and they always seemed to be in the mix to win a National Championship. That is no longer the case, and now this team isn’t even expected to compete in the Big Ten East Division.

Current odds at DraftKings Sportsbook have the Wolverines at +1400 to win the East and +2500 to win the Big Ten Conference. Those odds are way down on the list, and it is going to take a special season to prove the odds wrong.

Michigan State is even worse, and sportsbooks actually predict that the Spartans will finish in the last place in the East Division. The odds for Michigan State to win the East are set at +5000, and they are +10000 to win the entire Big Ten.

It should come as no surprise that the Ohio State Buckeyes are the massive betting favorites to win the Big Ten Conference yet again. Ohio State has been dominating the rivalry with Michigan over the past decade, and many of those games haven’t even been close.

What About the MAC Teams?

The other conference that is always of interest to college football fans in the state of Michigan is the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Not only is this a popular conference in this state, but it has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting conferences in the country.

Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan all compete in the MAC, and those three teams have a terrific rivalry amongst the trio. There are also years where these three teams are in the mix to win the conference or at least represent the West Division in the title game.

This year, Western Michigan and Central Michigan appear to have a shot to contend while the odds are pretty low for Eastern Michigan. Toledo (+110) and Ball State (+200) are the top picks to win the West Division, but there could be a chance for WMU or CMU to sneak in there.

Western Michigan has odds set at +390 to win the West, while Central Michigan is listed at +750. Eastern Michigan is all the way down the list at +2500, but this conference is known to deliver some memorable upsets.
