Barstool Sportsbook Open in Michigan

Penn National Gaming had a busy Christmas week, launching three retail sportsbooks in Michigan and Indiana.

These three retail sportsbooks will all be branded as Barstool Sportsbook, and this is expected to become one of the most popular options in each state.

In Michigan, the Barstool Sportsbook is now open and available at the Greektown Casino & Hotel in Detroit. Greektown is one of three commercial casinos in Michigan, and it was able to reach an agreement with Penn National Gaming earlier this year.

The new Barstool Sportsbook at Greektown Casino is located on the second floor, near the table games area. The entire sportsbook experience is expected to attract new customers as much more than just betting on sports is available.

A massive entryway leads customers into the sports bar lounge, where dining and drinks will be available. Massive television screens also fill the walls of the sportsbook, and this will be a great place to watch sporting events.

There is also a huge odds board that will have all of the best betting options of the day featured. Customers can place their bets with an on-site teller, or they can simply use the self-service kiosks that can be found in the sportsbook.

Sports betting has been available at Greektown since March, but it wasn’t under the Barstool name. Penn National Gaming focused its efforts on the state of Pennsylvania first, but now it has things in place to expand.

In Indiana, the Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg and the Ameristar East Chicago Hotel & Casino also had a new sportsbook open this week. Indiana already has mobile sports betting in place, and Barstool Sportsbook will be available online as well.

Online Coming Soon

Online sports betting in Michigan is coming at some point in 2021, but an official launch date has not yet been set. This Barstool Sportsbook will be available through a mobile app as well, along with a number of other online or mobile operators.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has issued more than a dozen temporary sports betting licenses, and operators are working on passing final regulatory approval. These sites will all have to do a test run before an official launch date is announced.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has also not announced if all of the online sites will launch on the same date or if it will be a rolling process. States such as Tennessee and Colorado launched several sites at one time while Illinois rolled out sportsbooks individually.

With so many online sportsbooks ready to launch, it would make sense for these properties to all launch as soon as they are ready. Michigan sports bettors have waiting a long time for mobile betting and giving them a number of options would be a nice bonus.

The sports betting industry in Michigan is expected to receive a huge boost with the launch of online betting, and that could happen as early as January 2021. Penn National Gaming and Barstool Sportsbooks will play a significant role in what transpires in the state of Michigan.
