Barstool Michigan Off to Huge Start

Barstool Sportsbook MI launch

When online sports betting officially launched in Michigan, Barstool Sportsbook was one operator drawing plenty of attention.

Barstool Sportsbook is a product of Penn National Gaming, as those two groups formed a partnership in 2020.

To gain access into the state of Michigan, Penn National agreed to a deal with the Greektown Casino in Detroit. This is one of just three commercial casinos in the state, but tribal properties can also offer sports betting.

Some of the most famous Barstool Sports personalities were on hand for the grand opening event, and there was a buzz inside the retail sportsbook. The biggest numbers came from the Barstool Sportsbook app.

This was the second attempt at launching the Barstool Sportsbook app after it had previously done so in the state of Pennsylvania. That market was already extremely competitive, and Barstool was expected to do much better in Michigan as it was available to launch on the first day.

There were over 19,000 first-time customers sign up at Barstool on the first weekend, which was nearly 70 percent more than in Pennsylvania. Michigan is a much smaller state than Pennsylvania, so it was clear that this sportsbook was extremely popular.

Penn National Gaming had a big year in 2020 after reporting a loss in the final quarter of 2019. The partnership with Barstool played a huge role in the turnaround, and the Barstool Sportsbook app is going to continue to bring in money.

Now that Barstool has successfully launched in Michigan, the company is turning its sights towards the state of Illinois. Illinois also has online betting available, and there are just five online sportsbooks up and running at this time.

The goal is to be live and ready to accept wagers by the start of the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, but an official launch date has not been set. The Illinois Gaming Board has traditionally been slow when approving new operators, and that could cause a slight delay.

Penn National Gaming has also announced that it plans to have the Barstool app available in at least 10 states by the end of 2021.

DraftKings One Operator Running Huge Promos

With Super Bowl LV set to take place on Sunday, several operators in the state of Michigan are running huge promotions. Sportsbooks are still competing to get new customers to sign up at their site, but they are also looking to take care of their current customers.

DraftKings is continuing to offer its $1,000 deposit bonus for new customers, but they also have a “no-brainer” bet available. Customers can double up their money if at least one touchdown is scored in Super Bowl LV, which goes for both new and current customers.

Outside of that “no-brainer” offer from DraftKings, they are also offering odds boosts on many other bets, especially when it comes to prop betting. Most MI online sportsbooks in the state will have similar offers, but it is hard to top what is out there from DraftKings.
